November is a busy month. Being a Scorpio, there is a sense that the year is closing and yet there are so many people, projects and things that I’m eager to focus on and explore. “The 5Ws” make themselves known - you know - WhoWhatWhereWhenWhy.
The journey so far this autumn has been blessings and losses. The loss of my brother Patrick to cancer (a big bear of a man with a roar to match - I still hear him) and my niece-in-law to ALS have tempered the autumn months. Patrick’s daughter was married in August and I was able to be there. Then at the beginning of October, I went to Washington DC to do the ALS Walk. The government shutdown had canceled the walk but not for the O’Neills. Around the Monument we went, laughing and talking and being a family. Both events were bountiful, blissful and beautiful.
There has been progress made with my play Orientation as I reach out to grad schools and regional theaters. The writing for the TV series Shelter goes very well. My characters have strong opinions. That, combined with seeing La Sonnambula, ART and The President’s Cake, equals being very blessed.
My November Recommendation is Tricia Brouk’s new book, Being Smart Is Stupid: Why Embracing the Wisdom of your Buddha Nature is the Secret to Great Leadership. It’s compelling and powerful. I’m into my second read-through. Thank you Tricia.
